Retina Treatment

We at iMax eye care provides comprehensive facilities to treat the most common diseases that affect the retina like Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular degeneration, Retinal detachments or tears, Macular holes, Retinopathy of prematurity and Retinitis Pigmentosa.

Retina is like the film of the camera which sends the image to the brain for processing. A damaged retina can lead to significant visual disturbances many of which may become permanent if not treated in time.

Diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness in adults. It is caused by changes in the blood vessels of the retina, making them leaky, causing visual damage. Early detection can be done by Eye Angiography and OCT. Retina Lasers can retard the progress of disease and prevent permanent visual damage. The iMax Eye Care Hospital, Sikar is one of the leading center for advanced retinal diagnostics and the surgeries are done by the best retina specialists in Rajasthan.

Know everything about Retina Treatment

+ What is Retina ?

The retina is the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of our eye. Light rays are focused onto the retina through our cornea, pupil and lens. The retina converts the light rays into impulses that travel through the optic nerve to our brain, where they are interpreted as the images we see. A healthy, intact retina is key to clear vision.

+ Common Retina Disease ?

  • Retinal Detachment: A retinal detachment occurs when the retina is pulled away from its normal position in the back of the eye. The retina is the light-sensitive layer of tissue that lines the inside of the eye and sends visual messages through the optic nerve to the brain. Retinal detachment can cause permanent vision loss if not treated in time.
  • Diabetic Retinopathy: Diabetic Retinopathy is one of the leading cause of blindness in adults. It is caused by changes in the blood vessels of the retina. In some people with diabetic retinopathy, blood vessels may swell and leak fluid. In other people, abnormal new blood vessels grow on the surface of the retina.
  • Retinopathy of Prematurity: Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a disease of the retina affecting prematurely born babies. In neonates in whom retinal vascularization is incomplete, abnormal proliferation of immature retinal blood vessels develops due to relative lack of oxygen following the withdrawal of therapeutic oxygen. The abnormal new blood vessels that grow are fragile and prone to leakage. This can result in significant damage to the retina including the formation of scar tissue and retinal detachment.
  • Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD): The retina is a paper-thin tissue that lines the back of the eye and sends visual signals to the brain. In the middle of the retina is a tiny area called the macula. AMD is a common eye disease that gradually destroys sharp, central vision.
  • Retinal vascular diseases like retinal vein occlusions, vasculitis and hypertensive retinopathy are some retinal vessel disorders that can decrease the vision and may lead to blindness. Early diagnosis and proper treatment with laser and new generation Anti-VEGF molecules can save the retina and vision. In these disorders retinal surgeries may also be required.

+ Common Symptoms of Retina Disease ?

  • Sudden or gradual decrease in vision.
  • Loss of field of vision.
  • Flashes of light.
  • Floaters.
  • Objects appearing distorted (Metamorphopsia).
  • Night Blindness.

+ Types of Retinal Detachment ?

  • Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment- A rhegmatogenous retinal detachment occurs due to a hole or break in the retina that allows fluid to pass into the space between the retina and other layers of the eye.
  • Exudative or secondary retinal detachment- An exudative retinal detachment occurs due to inflammation that results in fluid accumulating underneath the retina without the presence of a hole or break.
  • Tractional retinal detachment- A traction retinal detachment occurs when fibro vascular tissue on surface of retina pulls the retina from the underlying tissues as seen in diabetic retinopathy cases.

+ Symptoms of Retinal Detachment ?

  • Flashes of light (photopsia).
  • Floaters- black cobweb like spots moving in front of eye.
  • A curtain like shadow coming in field of vision.
  • Sudden Vision Loss when macula is detached.

+ Best time for Retina Treatment ?

Retina treatment should be start as soon as it begins to affect your vision. If you feel any of the above mentioned symptoms then it is the right time to go for eye specialist to treatment. Unnecessary delay can lead to unavoidable complications and more difficulty in the treatment.

+ Recommended treatment for Retina Disease ?

  • Fluorescein Angiography.
  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
  • Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT)
  • Anti-VEGF Treatment.
  • Retinal Laser Procedures
  • Retinal Surgeries.
  • Anti-VEGF Injections.
