Lasik Surgery

LASIK stands for Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis. The laser vision correction procedure can be used to treat Myopia (near sightedness), Hyperopia (far sightedness), Astigmatism and Presbyopia. LASIK is a procedure that uses the “Cool” light from an Excimer laser to reshape the inner tissue of the cornea. Dr. Sanjeev Rahar and Dr Hemant Gupta at iMax eye care hospital have so many years of rich experience in LASIK. It was one of the first clinic in Rajasthan to offer Lasik Vision Correction Surgery with ZEISS MEL 90 Excimer Laser Machine – World’s fastest excimer laser for LASIK and Presbyopic correction. People, who never imagined of being independent of visual aids , contact lenses and heavy glasses are now relying on LASIK Surgery which is been done with precision and expertise at iMax hospital.

With the advancement and fame of LASIK as well as other vision correction procedures, our Ophthalmologists readily offer these state-of-the-art services with latest equipment and technologies to a rising number of patients from north India. We perform Blade, Flapless surface Laser Procedures.

+ What is LASIK ?

LASIK is commonly referred to as laser eye surgery or laser vision correction. It is a type of refractive surgery for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. The LASIK surgery is performed by an Ophthalmologist by using micro-keratome and laser to reshape the eye’s cornea in order to improve visual acuity and quality of vision. It is a long-lasting alternative to eyeglasses or contact lenses.

+ Different tyes of LASIK ?

  • Blade Laser Procedures: in this procedures a special blade called microkeratome is used to make the corneal flap and then Excimer Laser is used to correct the spectacle power. Some type of blade procedure are:
    1. SBK (Thin Flap) Lasik with Custom Q
    2. SBK (Thin Flap) Lasik
    3. Aspheric Lasik
    4. Standard Lasik
  • Blade – Less Laser Procedures: In Blade-Less technique, there are no blades working on the eye. The whole procedure is done by the use of one or combination of two lasers; Femto Laser and Excimer Laser. Bladeless technique gives greater precision, better quality of vision and more safety. Some type of blade-less procedure are:
    1. Contoura Vision
    2. Blade-Less Lasik
    3. SMILE
  • Surface Laser Procedures: Surface laser procedures are designed for people who are otherwise not suitable for regular Lasik procedures, such as those with thin corneas etc.

+ Is LASIK procedure safe ?

LASIK is a very very safe procedure. This procedure is also US -FDA approved, which means they have been given safety clearance for Human Eyes. However, like any other surgical procedure it can have some complications which are extremely rare if a proper screening check is done prior to the procedure. Some patients might experience mild dryness in eyes which usually relieved by lubricating drops and disappears over time.

+ Am I suitable candidate for LASIK ?

Being a suitable candidate for laser vision correction surgery, you should be:

  • At least 18 years’ old
  • Your specs number should be stable for about a year
  • Your cornea should be of adequate thickness as seen by corneal scanning or ultrasound
  • You should not have eye diseases like keratoconus or dry eye syndrome
  • Female should not be pregnant or breast feeding

+ Investigations before LASIK ?

A complete eye examination will be performed to determine if you are a suitable candidate.

  • Pachymetry: To measure the thickness of cornea.
  • Topography: This instrument enables a very accurate map of the cornea to be plotted out almost like the whorls and grooves of the fingerprint. This is individual to each eye and forms the basis of the entire procedure.
  • Keratometry: To measure corneal curvature the keratometer evaluates the cornea for any irregularity or any surface defect and looks for keratoconus or corning of the cornea which would preclude LASIK, with an automatic detection system.
  • Applanation Tonometry: To measure intra-ocular pressure.
  • Indirect Opthalmoscopy: To rule out any retinal pathology.

+ Best time for LASIK ?

LASIK can be done at any time as you need to get rid of your specs. Seasonal weather conditions have no effect on LASIK surgery.

+ Is it painful ?

The LASIK surgery is painless because the surgeon puts drops in your eyes to numb them. After the surgery, your eyes may be irritated for two or three days. Any discomfort can be treated with medication.

+ Risk factor of LASIK ?

All surgical procedures have some risks, including laser vision correction. These may include some minor pain or discomfort after surgery, night glare, regression (a gradual decrease in visual sharpness over time), scarring, under or over correction and infection. You can consult with doctor for the same.
